2. Beat the Warriors

Being the seventh-place team in Wednesday’s play-in game means a win over the Warriors ensures the actual No. 7 seed in the postseason. A loss is what sets up a true do-or-die game.

Winning also ensures a first-round series against a young Phoenix Suns team. That could bode well for this experienced Lakers bunch led by James. Chris Paul’s presence may not be enough for his young team against the defending champions when Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges, Deandre Ayton and Cameron Johnson have never been to the postseason before.

But winning the first play-in game is not just about lining up with the Suns. The Lakers just need to qualify. Having to play two play-in games, and winning the second, would have the team dealing with no rest before the long haul of the playoffs … as an 8-seed.

The first slide talked all about the Lakers being healthy and rust-free. Having to play two games just to reach the actual postseason would be a true disaster.

Would it derail a potential title run? No, but it sure would be tough to play deep into July if they start without a fresh set of stars.
