1 trade to avoid: Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant

Much like Boyd, Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant is no stranger to trade rumors. Even this past winter, the Cubs were linked to the New York Mets as a potential trade partner for Bryant.

Following his NL MVP season in 2016, Bryant had never truly replicated that success due to dealing with numerous injuries. But this season, the third baseman has been exceptionally solid. In 2021, Bryant is leaps and bounds the team’s best hitter. It is not even close.

Through 41 games, Bryant leads the team in batting average (.308), slugging percentage (.616), OPS (1.023), home runs (10), runs scored (32), hits (45) and doubles (15).

Hoyer would definitely turn some heads if he were to trade Bryant while still in the postseason picture. In the past, trading Bryant or letting him walk as a free agent was a no-brainer. But the third baseman has truly turned things around nearly two months into the 2021 season.

The easy decision to make is to keep Bryant around for the remainder of the season, and try to work something out to keep him in the Windy City for the foreseeable future.
