Klay Thompson sends a message to Warriors fans after loss to Grizzlies
By John Buhler
Klay Thompson has an encouraging message to downtrodden Golden State Warriors fans.
After seeing his Golden State Warriors get eliminated from NBA Playoffs on Friday night during their play-in tournament game vs. the Memphis Grizzlies, injured guard Klay Thompson sent out a positive message to fans on Instagram who might be down in the dumps.
Thompson has not played for Golden State since tearing his ACL during the 2019 NBA Finals vs. the Toronto Raptors. He missed all of the 2019-20 NBA season due to injury and missed all of this past year working his back from an Achilles’ tendon tear suffered in the offseason. Even though his backcourt teammate Steph Curry had an amazing year, it was not enough to make the playoffs.
Here are Thompson’s words of encouragement to all the Warriors fans in need of a pick-me-up.
Golden State Warriors: Klay Thompson sends out positive message to fans
For as much as Thompson’s message is positive and encouraging, it might unfortunately fall on deaf ears. Though fans understand that injuries are part of the game, not having Thompson available to play a single game over the last two years is a big reason why Golden State did not make the playoffs this year, or was even allowed to take part in the 2020 NBA Orlando bubble.
Thompson is already a lock for the Basketball Hall of Fame, but he is on the wrong side of 30 and back-to-back sinew-related injuries cannot sit well with Golden State fans. Though his game of catch-and-shoot will age well into his mid-to-late-30s, we have to wonder if Thompson’s ability to play great defense backing up Curry will fade now that he has been labeled as injury-prone.
A healthy Splash Brothers backcourt should propel the Warriors back into the 2022 NBA Playoffs.
