After Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young hit the game-winning shot on Sunday, New York Knicks fans began booing him ahead of Game 2 … and then got a ruthless chant going.

It’s been a while since the New York Knicks have a certified villain to boo in playoff games. That distinction used to be held by Hall-of-Famers Michael Jordan and Reggie Miller. Now, the title belongs to Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young, who shushed the crowd following his Game 1-winning layup.

Knicks fans, like many New York sports fans, do not forget and are not afraid to express their feelings. During Game 2 warmups, Young stepped onto the court and was immediately greeted with boos.

Then, during the game, they got an absolutely ruthless chant going: “TRAE YOUNG’S BALDING!”

Later in the game, Knicks fans just leaned all the way into the New Yorker within them and chanted ‘F Trae Young’ as the final second peeled off the clock.

Welcome to New York sports infamy, Trae Young. In fact, Young did not wait long to shush the fans again, as he did so in the opening quarter of Game 2.

Throughout Game 1, Madison Square Garden was packed with raucous fans. They erupted in cheer every time the Knicks scored and booed every time the Hawks got on the scoreboard. During the contest, Knicks fans decided to chant “F**k Trae Young,” which did not go unnoticed by the former 2018 first-round pick.

In Atlanta’s final possession of Game 1, Young was defended by Frank Ntilkina and put up the easy floater to take the 107-105 victory. As soon as the ball went through the net, Young placed his index finger over his lips and loudly exclaimed that Madison Square Garden got awfully quiet.

After the 2021 NBA Playoffs, it is a virtual guarantee that Young will be jeered every time he plays at MSG.
