2. Edmonton Oilers

Between Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, the Edmonton Oilers arguably have two of the top five forwards in the NHL. These two superstars have won four of the past five Art Ross Trophies as the NHL’s leader in points, with McDavid winning three and Draisaitl winning one.

What, precisely, do the Oilers have to show for it? One postseason series win. That came back in 2017. McDavid has been to the postseason three times. Two of those times have come in the past two seasons. Both times, the Oilers lost failed to advance past the first round they played in.

McDavid’s patience is understandably starting to wear a little bit thin. Also, it’s worth noting Friedman said back in October of 2019 that McDavid was going to give then-new general manager Ken Holland two years to prove the team is heading in the right direction.

All of this suggests the Oilers are a bit of a desperate team. The Oilers need to improve their defense and Seth Jones would help immensely. Edmonton would probably want an extension with Jones, but as they say, beggers can’t be choosers. Holland’s time to impress McDavid is running up and Jones might buy him another year or two.
