San Francisco Giants hit bombs with the best of them
By John Buhler
The San Francisco Giants dig hitting the long ball this year, especially away from Oracle Park.
A big reason behind the San Francisco Giants‘ hot start to the 2021 MLB season has been their proclivity for hitting one home run after another, especially away from home.
The Giants have by far and away a league-best 56 home runs on the road. The next closest teams to them in regards to visiting team power are the St. Louis Cardinals and the Tampa Bay Rays at 40 big flies apiece. In fact, of the Giants’ 75 home runs on the season, only 19 of them have been hit at Oracle Park. There need to be more splashes into McCovey Cove, if we are being honest here.
San Francisco continues to hit road homers at an alarming pace this season, but will it sustain?
San Francisco Giants sure know how to take you deep in your home ballpark
The Giants enter play on Monday afternoon at 33-20 on the season. This has them only half a game back of the San Diego Padres for first place in the NL West race. San Francisco took three of four vs. the arch rival Los Angeles Dodgers at their place over the weekend. With the sub-.500 Los Angeles Angels coming to town, there is a good chance the Giants could be in first place very soon.
What is interesting is the Giants are 19-13 in their 32 road games this season. That means they are hitting 1.75 home runs in every game away from Oracle Park in 2021. While they are only hitting 0.9 home runs a game at their place this year, the Giants are an impressive 14-7 in their 21 games played at home in this campaign. It is so hard to beat this team wherever they are playing.
There might be a regression to the mean at some point, but this looks to like a postseason team.
