Alabama and UCLA took care of their first opponents in the 2021 Women’s College world Series. Now they’re advancing on to face each other.

The Alabama Crimson Tide and the UCLA Bruins were each able to make the jump into the winner’s bracket in the 2021 Women’s College World Series. As it turns out, Alabama and UCLA were both able to win their first game of the WCWS by four runs.

Now the two teams are preparing to play each other.

Alabama (51-7) took care of the Arizona Wildcats largely due to yet another incredible pitching performance from Montana Fouts. Fouts struck out 16 batters in a complete game effort as Alabama beat Arizona 5-1.

Meanwhile, UCLA (47-5) handed the Florida State Seminoles a shutout loss as Rachel Garcia threw a complete game of her own. Garcia struck out 11 and helping the Bruins beat the Seminoles 4-0 to close out the first day of the Women’s College World Series.

Both Alabama and UCLA have national title aspirations this season and both teams certainly have rosters that could get them a championship this year.

The UCLA Bruins are a very well-rounded team and have plenty of power at the plate to compliment a very dangerous pitching duo. UCLA has hit 75 home runs so far this season while the Bruins’ duo of Garcia and Megan Faraimo has struck out 357 batters.

Alabama doesn’t quite have the same sort of approach at the plate as the Crimson Tide has only hit a total of 39 homers this year. But Alabama’s still scoring (so far 344 runs score this year) while also relying upon a dominant pitching duo of its own. Fouts and Lexi Kilfoyl have struck out a combined 448 batters this year.

Expect this matchup to be a close one as Alabama and UCLA face each other on the second day of the Women’s College World Series.
