Charlie Blackmon has spent his entire big league career in the Colorado Rockies organization since being drafted in the second round of the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft out of Georgia Tech. He has been a four-time NL All-Star, a two-time Silver Slugger recipient and won the 2017 NL Batting Title. However, postseason success has evaded him, mostly because he plays for the Rockies.
Blackmon will be hitting free agency next winter. He will turn 35-years-old on July 1, and we have to wonder if he is seriously thinking about leaving Denver to win a championship. While he may not accomplish that in a brief stint with the Yankees, he could do so if he signs somewhere besides Colorado in his free agency. It is the price to pay to be a Yankee, but maybe he can salvage a most glorious Don Mattingly mustache out of it as a nice consolation prize to be a Bronx Bomber? If Kevin Youkilis had to go clean-shaven in New York, Blackmon does not stand a chance either. To be honest with you, that might be the biggest holdup on him possibly being traded to the Yankees. For Blackmon’s standards, he is having a down season for Colorado, as he is only slashing .268/.368/.404 on the year. Given that he rarely misses games since entering his big league prime, he might be worth giving rebuilding Colorado a call for a potential trade. If he can be the reason the Yankees win the AL pennant, then it might be worth it for his beard to meet a Barbasol demise.
