1. Bernard King

King made an immediate impact as a rookie for the New Jersey Nets in 1977, averaging 24.2 points per game (10th in the league). Later on, before and around a couple seasons missed due to knee injuries, he was one of the most prolific scorers in the NBA for a decade. In 1984-85 with the New York Knicks, he averaged a league-high 32.9 points per game. In 1990-91 with the Washington Bullets, during his age-34 campaign, he averaged 28.4 points per game (third in the league).

King was fairly well-traveled early in his career. Two seasons with the Nets was followed by one (19 games in 1979-80) with the Utah Jazz. Before the 1980-81 season, the Jazz traded him to Golden State.

King averaged 21.9 points per game in his first season with the Warriors, then he put up 23.2 points per game (eighth in the league) during his second season in Golden State. He was traded to the Knicks just before the 1982-83 season, where he then reached a higher level before his first major knee injury.

King’s time in Golden State is a forgotten footnote in a Hall of Fame career that was impacted by knee issues. But that two-year stretch also yielded his first career All-Star nod (1982), and it really set the stage for what he would do in New York.
