Heavyweight contender Michael Hunter signed a multi-fight deal with Triller. He has worked with other promoters and broadcasters but likes this fit.

Heavyweight Michael Hunter and Matchroom Boxing parted ways in July of 2020. He now has a multi-fight deal with Triller as part of Triller Fight Club and feels good with this new union.

Hunter (19-1-1, 13 KOs) is in the prime of his career at 32 years old. He only has one loss on his record, which came against Oleksandr Usyk back in 2017. He was in line for a big fight with undefeated Filip Hrgovic but withdrew from the matchup shortly after his former promoter Matchroom Boxing won the purse bid.

Shortly after pulling out of the Hrgovic contest, Hunter revealed he signed a deal with Triller. Hunter has his first fight under the Triller Fight Club banner on Saturday, June 19, on the undercard of Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos. Hunter feels empowered by his new partnership with Triller.

“I was talking to my small team that I kind of grew up and came up with, to tell them that, you know, this is our first time that we actually get to pick, you know what I’m saying, and get to have choices,” Hunter told FanSided during a recent media call.

During Hunter’s 8-year professional boxing career, he has worked with multiple promoters. He characterized himself as a “freelance type of guy.”

“I’m kind of like a freelance type of guy anyway,” said Hunter. “So to be in a new with a new promotion and, you know, they’re different entertainment and stuff like that. It was kind of like a breath of fresh air.”

Hunter’s opponent in his next matchup is Mike Wilson. Wilson (21-1, 10 KOs) isn’t a big name, but he’s a veteran that Hunter respects. Hunter realizes that a loss would spoil his plans with Triller.

“You know, if Mike Wilson wins, then, you know, he’ll be fighting on Triller next,” said Hunter. “So, really, I’m not really looking past Mike Wilson. People don’t know too much about him, but, you know, me growing up as an amateur going on the internet and looking at, you know, who was rated number one rated heavyweight, there was Mike Wilson.”

It will be interesting to see who Triller can secure for Hunter next, assuming he’s victorious against Wilson. Hunter has shown talent in the past and is a challenge for any heavyweight in the world.
