U.S. Open 2021 sleeper No. 3: Harris English (+8000)

At the end of 2020, it looked as if Harris English was about to make some big, loud noise in the golfing world. He capped off three-straight top-six finishes with a win at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, that which came on the heels of finishing in the top five at the U.S. Open last year and second at THE NORTHERN TRUST at the end of last season as well.

Unfortunately, English hit a bit of a dry spell thereafter and seemed to completely lose his form. As one of the most underrated ball-strikers in the world, that part of his game just wasn’t there. And yet, he’s started to show some true signs of finding himself again, finishing top-15 at the AT&T Byron Nelson and then contending at the Palmetto Championship.

Much like Palmer, English isn’t a long-hitter but, when his irons are dialed in, he can more than make up for that. More importantly for this venue and the rough we’re going to see, his game around the greens should play in his favor as well.

There is undoubtedly a bit of a projection here because English hasn’t fully found his form of seven months ago but has shown some inklings of that returning. Even still, with +8000 odds, it’s difficult to not think he’s worth a sprinkle of capital as a dark horse winner pick.
