2. Bill Belichick, for goodness sakes!

He’s been at this for close to five decades. Bill Belichick has spent well more than half of his life in the National Football League. Be it as an assistant, coordinator or head coach, he is one of the game’s great minds. He had turned around the Cleveland Browns in the mid-1990s before disaster struck and the original franchise packed its bags and became the Baltimore Ravens.

He was part of two Giants’ teams that captured Lombardi Trophies (1986 and ’90) and as the leader of the New England Patriots, he was the guiding force behind nine Super Sunday appearances and six Lombardi Trophies. Of course, a lot went very wrong a year ago and the departure of veteran quarterback Tom Brady didn’t help.

A depleted roster was an issue but the Pats still owned a 6-6 record with four games to play. This is a coach that won a Super Bowl in 2001 when his team scored three offensive touchdown in three postseason games.

Hence, to dismiss the Patriots because Brady is no longer with the organization would likely be ill-advised. Yes, the latter led the Buccaneers to a championship while the Patriots suffered through their first losing since Belichick’s first season as head coach in 2000. But the longtime NFL legend likely still has some tricks up his distinguished sleeves.
