DraftKings U.S. Open Picks: $9,000 range

Rory McIlroy ($9,900) – Outside of the win at Quail Hollow, the form of Rory McIlroy hasn’t been anything to write home about. Having said that, his game is on an upward trajectory and, with a player of his raw talent priced in the $9,000 range on DraftKings, you have to at least consider him.

Justin Thomas ($9,700) – No one can question the upside of Thomas on any given week. With that said, his driving and putting have just been to untrustworthy since his win at THE PLAYERS for me to consider him one of the best options for the U.S. Open in this price range.

Collin Morikawa ($9,500) – It’s possible that we could see someone as good as Morikawa be almost a contrarian play because of his lack of length off the tee and, to a lesser degree, his questionable short game. With that said, his elite iron play could give him an advantage that can’t be ignored.

Xander Schauffele ($9,300) – Though he missed the cut at the PGA Championship, Schauffele has earned the reputation of a big-game hunter with how he plays in loaded fields such as the U.S. Open. His all-around game is suited for Torrey Pines and, of course, it’s somewhat of a home-game for the San Diego native.

Viktor Hovland ($9,200) – Speaking of all-around players who could make serious noise, Hovland fits that mold perfectly. He has consistently been putting himself in the mix this season and has improved his biggest weakness (short game) a great deal. At this price, this is an enticing option for your lineup.

Patrick Cantlay ($9,100) – As backwards as this sounds, Cantlay winning his last time out at the Memorial might be something to hold against him. However, he’s regained form after a dead stretch and his complete golf game should help him make some noise at Torrey Pines.

Patrick Reed ($9,000) – Like him or not, Reed has been playing quite well overall, including top-20 finishes in three of his last four starts and two top-6 finishes in that same stretch. His elite short game should play well at Torrey, a place where one of golf’s biggest villains has enjoyed past success.
