2 reasons the Saints can win the Super Bowl this season
2. Quarterback Jameis Winston doesn’t become a one-man show
The man who threw for more yards and served up the second-most touchdown passes in NFL history has opted for retirement after 20 seasons – the last 15 with the New Orleans Saints. Drew Brees was one of the great passers in league history and he and head coach Sean Payton helped change the culture in the Crescent City.
The one-time second-round pick of the then-San Diego Chargers (2001) put up huge numbers on an annual basis. The last few seasons were marred by some injuries and his performance in the playoff loss to the Buccaneers was not an ideal way to end a stellar career.
But now the attention turns to presumed starting quarterback Jameis Winston, the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft by Tampa Bay. His career with that franchise was highlighted by promise and ball-security issues.
In 2019, he led the league with 5,109 passing yards, threw 33 touchdowns but served up an NFL-high 30 interceptions. Throw in five lost fumbles and he turned over the ball a mind-boggling 35 times. That same year, Payton’s Saints set an NFL record with just eight turnovers in a single season.

With a year in the system and with a quality offensive line, running back Alvin Kamara and wide receiver Michael Thomas, the strong-armed Winston should thrive on a team that has exceptional balance and knows how to take care of the football.
