NBA Twitter lost their minds after Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons turned down an easy dunk opportunity in Game 7 against the Atlanta Hawks.

The Philadelphia 76ers looked dead to rights after blowing a 26-point lead to the Atlanta Hawks in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. They survived Game 6 to force a win-or-go-home series finale on Sunday afternoon. For the 76ers, they needed star Ben Simmons to take advantage of shot opportunities, especially in crunch time.

Yeah, about that.

Late in the fourth quarter, Simmons matched up one-on-one with Hawks forward Danilo Gallinari, got past him and had an open dunk attempt in the paint with 6-foot-1 Trae Young being the only person standing in his way. Instead, the 76ers star opted to forgo it and decided to pass it to Matisse Thybulle. NBA Twitter lost their collective minds seeing Simmons turn down an easy two points.

While social media users could not believe it, you can only imagine emotions the 76ers faithful in attendance in Wells Fargo Center were going through. In fact, you can hear a collective, audible groan from every ticket-holder as soon as Simmons passed the ball to Thybulle.

For 76ers fans, the pain did not end there, as the team lost 103-96 to officially be eliminated from the 2021 NBA Playoffs. Now, the Hawks move on to face the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals.

In 36 minutes of playing time, Simmons scored 5 points while shooting 2-for-4 from the field and 1-for-2 from the free-throw line. Additionally, Simmons tallied 13 assists and 8 rebounds.

Simmons has been ridiculed for his lack of quality free-throw shooting, and now Sixers fans will look at this play and clench their fists in rage like the popular Arthur meme.
