The Vegas Golden Knights needed just over a minute of overtime against the Montreal Canadiens to grab a winning goal and even up the series.

The only thing better than NHL playoff hockey is an NHL playoff overtime.

On Sunday, the Vegas Golden Knights didn’t do any messing around when extra time arrived.

After just 1:18 had elapsed in overtime against the Montreal Canadiens, Nicolas Roy broke the deadlock and tied the series.

Roy just happens to be a native of Quebec. The province will have to forgive him for scoring his first-ever overtime goal against Montreal.

The Golden Knights and Canadiens are all tied up

Sometimes, all you need is the right shot at the right time. Roy and the Golden Knights only needed one good chance to get it done.

Vegas left it late to even force overtime. Brayden McNabb found the goal midway through the third period to tie it at 1-1. Paul Byron opened the scoring for the Canadiens in the second.

The Golden Knights needed to find a response in the series. While they comfortably won Game 1, 4-1, things hadn’t gone their way since.

Montreal held off a late rally to win Game 2, 3-2, in Vegas.

When the series moved to Montreal, the Canadians erased a late deficit to force overtime and then went on to win with a goal from Josh Anderson.

Finding themselves in a 1-2 hole, the Golden Knights really couldn’t afford to lose a third game in a row on Sunday night.

Goalkeeper Robin Lehner, starting in place of Marc-Andre Fleury, made 27 saves to keep his team alive despite his goal being peppered by shots. He hadn’t started since a disastrous 7-1 loss in the opening game against Colorado.

After two straight overtime games, the series may have more fireworks to produce as it continues on Tuesday evening in Las Vegas.
