1. Lucas Niang and Mike Remmers will battle for the starting right tackle spot

Let’s be real. The only way the Chiefs get back to the Super Bowl for the third year in a row is if their offensive line does not resemble a turnstile. With former No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher signing with the Indianapolis Colts and Mitchell Schwartz still a free agent, the Chiefs have major issues at their tackle spots. While trading for Orlando Brown Jr. with the Ravens helps, he is not a panacea.

Yes, Kansas City could use its top free-agent acquisition of Joe Thuney to set the edge, but he is an even better player inside at guard. The Chiefs should have one of the better offensive interiors in football with the amount of depth and star power they have added to the guard and center spots. However, it will likely come down to Lucas Niang or Mike Remmers starting opposite of Brown.

Remmers filled in for the Chiefs out on the edge last postseason and got posterized by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ vaunted pass rush. Niang kept Chase Young in check during their college days, but Niang opted out of his rookie season with the Chiefs last year out of TCU. While he offers great upside, he is an unproven commodity in the NFL. As for Remmers, we know what he can provide.

Overall, the Chiefs have an incredible defense under coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. As long as they have Mahomes playing at a high level under center, they can contend for Lombardi Trophies with Andy Reid as their head coach. Assuming the Chiefs get right tackle fixed and find Mahomes’ third receiving option after Kelce and Hill, this team can win 13 games and play for a championship.
