2. CB Patrick Robinson

The final rankings for the New Orleans Saints’ defense in 2020 indicated they were one of the better units in the league. But it was really an up-and-down year for Dennis Allen’s unit, which slumped during the second half of 2019 and unfortunately picked up where it left off in the early stages of 2020.

The team righted itself on this side of the ball for a spell before slumping late. Patrick Robinson has spent eight of his 11 NFL seasons in the Crescent City and has been with the club the past three years. In 2020, he didn’t see significant playing time and while he was an asset against the run via Pro Football Focus (subscription required), could his Saints’ days be numbered?

1. S P.J. Williams

He’s been a member of the team since general manager Mickey Loomis made him a third-round draft choice in 2016. Defensive back P.J. Williams has been a versatile member of Dennis Allen’s defensive units the past five seasons.

He’s totaled a combined seven takeaways and 26 passes defensed in 62 regular-season contests over that span and also played in all seven of the Saints’ postseason contests over that span. In 2020, he made the transition from cornerback to safety and it came with mixed results via Pro Football Focus.

The Saints’ pass defense was inconsistent at best this past season and Williams did re-up with the team in March. Could his future be in doubt?
