Look: Texas savagely trolls Tennessee after eliminating Vols in College World Series
The Texas Longhorns own the color orange after eliminating the Tennessee Volunteers from the College World Series, using the moment for a savage troll.
There are a handful of college athletics programs synonymous with the color orange. The Texas Longhorns and Tennessee Volunteers are the biggest of the bunch.
So it was fitting that the two met in the College World Series on Tuesday with elimination on the line.
When nine innings were up, the Longhorns came out on top with an 8-4 victory. Along with staying alive in the CWS, Texas also made sure Tennessee knows whose orange won the day.
One point for burnt orange.
Texas extended its stay in the CWS by eliminating Tennessee
The Volunteers were stoked to make their first College World Series since 2005, even receiving congratulations from Peyton Manning. The legendary Tennessee quarterback was at the game on Tuesday.
The star power in the stands couldn’t make a difference, though.
Tennesee took an early lead with two runs each in the second and fourth. However, the Longhorns had an answer each time. Eric Kennedy knocked out a three-run home run in the second, while another run in the third put Texas up 4-2 before the Vols tied it up again.
From the fourth inning on, Texas controlled the game. Freshman pitcher Tanner Witt shut down Tennessee’s batters, getting the win by giving up just three hits and no runs in 5.2 innings. He had two strikeouts. At the plate, the Longhorns piled on four more runs courtesy of two RBI singles and a wild pitch.
The Volunteers will head home disappointed. The Longhorns get to face the same team that handed Tennessee their first loss: Virginia. The Cavaliers lost to Mississippi State on Tuesday. Whichever team loses when they battle on Wednesday will be eliminated.
