Daniel Bard could leave a bad NL West team to improve the Braves bullpen

There is no other way around this. The only hope the Braves have for getting back into the postseason race is if their lousy bullpen improves dramatically overnight. The good news is we have seen general manager Alex Anthopoulos rebuild his bullpen on the fly before, most notably ahead of the 2019 MLB trade deadline by acquiring relief pitchers from non-contending teams.

Though it is in the same league, one player who could make a ton of sense for the Braves at the right price is Colorado Rockies right-hander Daniel Bard. Like division rival Arizona, Colorado is going nowhere this season. The Rockies are rebuilding, and could sell off a few intriguing assets from their pitching staff. Bard has a 4.15 ERA in 29 appearances for the lowly Rockies this year.

As with Peralta, Bard will not be a free agent until 2023. Despite being nearly 36-years-old, Bard still has one more year of arbitration left, as this is only his seventh big-league season. Regardless, Bard should be on the shortlist of relief pitchers Anthopoulos should look at potentially acquire from non-contending teams. A deeper and better bullpen will save this team.

Trading for Bard may be a depth play, but could give this awful bullpen some much-needed relief.
