3 cheap under-the-radar trades the Braves can make to win the deadline
By John Buhler
Adam Frazier is a Georgia native who could provide the Braves roster a spark
While trading for him may not exactly classify as cheap, it would certainly be under-the-radar. One player who will be of interest on the trading block from the Pittsburgh Pirates is second baseman/outfielder Adam Frazier. He is leading baseball in hits with 91 and doubles with 24 in 71 games for the lowly Buccos. His addition to the roster would be a huge spark for Braves Country.
Frazier grew up in nearby Watkinsville, Georgia before playing his college baseball at SEC powerhouse Mississippi State. Though he may be more of a second baseman than an outfielder, Atlanta should have no problem starting him in left field to offset the Marcell Ozuna fiasco, as well as top prospect Cristian Pache not thriving at the big-league level at this point of his career.
In a way, the Braves would be able to recoup some of the offensive firepower they have been missing with Ozuna and catcher Travis d’Arnaud out with injury, as well as letting last year’s left fielder Adam Duvall walk in his free agency to the rival Miami Marlins. With Frazier under contract through 2022 and entering the last year of arbitration, he could stick in Atlanta for a year or two.
For the Braves to get better faster, the front office needs to look at acquiring outfield depth and bullpen help from teams that are considerably worse than them. Not every team will be a seller at the deadline, but there should be enough for there to actually be a market for many regular contributors who could be moved. Improving the bullpen and the outfield makes Atlanta better.
What other players should the Braves look at adding as we approach the MLB trade deadline?
