1. QB Josh Rosen

After the Miami Dolphins tried to trade him and ultimately waived him at final cuts last year, Rosen landed softly on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad. Then the 49ers plucked him off the Buccaneers’ practice squad late in season, and he was active for two games without seeing the field. He was brought back to San Francisco on a cheap one-year deal this offseason.

With Garoppolo and Lance in place, Rosen will continue to compete with Nate Sudfeld to be the 49ers’ No. 3 quarterback during training camp and preseason games. That’s not exactly stiff competition for the former top-10 overall pick, but here he is.

Maybe some day, Rosen will land in a solid situation where he’ll also get a shot to earn a spot as someone’s No. 2 quarterback. He was drafted into a bad situation by the Arizona Cardinals in 2018, then the 2019 Dolphins were arguably even worse when he played and “Tank for Tua” was the buzzword in Miami.

Rosen has an outside chance to stick around as the 49ers’ No. 3 quarterback on the 53-man roster. But it’s more likely he’s cut and lands elsewhere if another team wants to take a flier, as he is becoming a journeyman rather quickly.
