Liverpool already possess a star-studded attack, but the chance to add Kylian Mbappe this summer is very tempting for Jurgen Klopp.

Kylian Mbappe’s refusal to sign a contract extension at PSG means he’ll likely be leaving the French capital this summer. That news is music to the ears of everyone at Liverpool.

The Daily Star reports that the electric French starlet has already informed PSG officials that he’s not a believer in their long-term project. That’s why he’s not inclined to extend his contract. PSG now face the choice of either selling Mbappe this summer or letting him walk away from free in 12 months when his current contract expires.

It’s easy to understand why Liverpool will rush to the front of the queue for his services. Mbappe’s pace and willingness to press the opposition are tailor-made for Klopp’s heavy metal football at Anfield. He may not be the classic No. 9 that some Liverpool supporters crave, but he’ll pour in goals if he joins the Premier League giants.

Do Liverpool have the money to sign Mbappe?

PSG are feeling pressure to find a resolution to the Mbappe saga, but they will not part with him on anything resembling a cut-rate deal. The fact that no transfer fee is being mentioned in relation to Mbappe currently implies that PSG could ask for an astronomical fee to begin negotiations.

Even so, Liverpool should do everything necessary to put the necessary financial package together. Mbappe is one of the most prolific attackers in Europe and is still just 22 years of age. Liverpool could buy him now and reasonably expect to see him become one of the best football players in the world over the next several seasons.

Mbappe’s tender age is the reason why Liverpool shouldn’t hesitate to pay the fee required. Paying upwards of £70 million might seem crazy for a player who could be a free agent next summer, but Liverpool cannot afford to wait. Mbappe hitting free agency would inspire a bidding war of epic proportions.

Mbappe’s departure from PSG is far from a certainty, but Liverpool are motivated to help push his exit along. Acquiring him represents the best possible transfer outcome for the Reds this summer.
