Kyle Gibson

Kyle Gibson is having a banger of a season for the Rangers with a 6-0 record and a 2.00 ERA. He’s producing career bests after a down season in 2020 and a truly horrendous Opening Day.

Basically, Texas won’t get more for him than they would now, so they’re going to be sellers at the deadline.

The fact that he’s dealing with a minor injury at the moment shouldn’t be too big of a concern. Nor should the possibility of slight regression. He’s still an excellent veteran option for Chicago to pursue.

There are a lot of other starting pitchers on the market as well, so less pricey options than Gibson or Berrios will be on the table.

Still, it’s now-or-never time for Chicago with their current core. A half measure may get them the NL Central, but it won’t yield much else beyond that. If they’re going to try to do something special this season, it’s best to do it right.

The Cubs won’t get someone on Darvish’s level, but they can shore up the rotation if they’re committed to the idea.
