1. CB Sam Beal

A third-round pick in the 2018 supplemental draft out of Western Michigan, Beal missed his entire rookie season due to a shoulder injury and a hamstring issue cost him all but six games in 2019. Then he opted out of the 2020 season, and a recent guilty plea to gun-related charges from an arrest in Cleveland last year has cast his future into further doubt.

Using a third-round supplemental pick on Beal in 2018 cost the Giants a third-round pick in 2019, so it’s already down as one of the biggest mistakes Gettleman has made during his tenure. Beal was already a long-shot to make the roster this year, with the Giants’ depth at corner (James Bradberry, Adoree’ Jackson, Aaron Robinson, Darnay Holmes). The second-year coaching staff lead by Joe Judge has literally hardly seen him. From a pure football standpoint, as cited by Zack Blatt of NJ.com. Beal’s decision to skip voluntary OTAs this offseason was a bad career decision.

Seemingly injury-prone when he wasn’t opted out, and now a bit of a distraction after an arrest and guilty plea on a gun charge, it’s finally become where Beal is not worth the trouble for the Giants. It truly wouldn’t be a shock if he’s gone before training camp starts.
