1. Go for broke and trade for Max Scherzer to make every other fanbase furious

This would be the most New York solution to an ongoing Yankees problem ever. Everybody knows that Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer is playing for a non-contending team on an expiring contract. Though he could return to the nation’s capital on a new deal next winter, it may serve the Nationals organization to sell high on their ace to pick up a handful of top prospects to reboot a bit.

He may only be a rental, or he may absolutely love it in New York. What trading for Scherzer means is the Yankees are serious about making the postseason at all costs. By damning the torpedoes, they can ruin the trade-deadline plans of many other contending teams who wished to acquire Scherzer to go and try to win a pennant. He will make the Yankees better every fifth day.

Trading for Scherzer would have been incredibly decadent until very recently. Jameson Taillon’s struggles have been well-documented. Gerrit Cole has been incredibly polarizing as this staff’s ace. Luis Severino got hurt again and Corey Kluber had to be shut down. So at this time, trading for Scherzer would not be the craziest thing the Yankees have ever done heading into the deadline.

The Yankees can improve next month in many ways. They can add a centerfielder or someone who can play multiple positions in the field like Frazier or Marte. They can go for broke and be all-in on Scherzer for an awesome three-month rental. The Yankees can also part ways with their much-maligned skipper. Regardless, the Yankees have work to do if they want to make the postseason.

What moves can the Yankees make in the next few weeks to save their season before it’s too late?
