3. LaRon Landry, defensive back, LSU

Safety LaRon Landry was part of defensive back tandem “Area 51” and his teammate, the late Sean Taylor, during his career with the Washington Football Team. Landry was one of the last physical “in-box” safeties. Though Landry did not have elite ball skills, his ability to thump opposing receivers separated receivers from the ball just fine.

Landry had a solid career; unfortunately, it was cut short due to performance-enhancing drugs. In 2014 Landry was suspended for the first time for PEDs. The second time he tested positive was after being released by the Colts. Landry’s third and final strike came in November of 2015 when he was suspended indefinitely for PEDs.

Landry’s career began with quite the bang at LSU, however. As a freshman, the native son of Louisiana was a crucial piece in the Tigers’ 2003 BCS National Championship team. Landry was both a Freshman All-SEC and Freshman All-American selection in addition to being a Second-Team All-American.

As good as Landry was as a freshman, he improved every season at LSU. As a junior and senior, Landry was an All-SEC first-team selection each season and a Consensus All-American his senior season in Baton Rouge.

Landry started 48 games and finished his career on the Bayou third all-time in interceptions with 12.
