Minnesota Twins. 2. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. RHP. Jose Berrios. 2. player

Jose Berrios could be among the very best pitching talents available this July

Admittedly, it is going to take a lot for the Minnesota Twins to willingly part ways with starting pitcher Jose Berrios. No, this season has not gone according to plan in the Twin Cities, but Berrios is a two-time AL All-Star and a former top pitching prospect in the Minnesota organization. However, if the Twins want to go into rebuilding mode, Berrios could fetch them a huge return.

For a team like the Yankees, they would love to add a front-line starter the caliber of Berrios. He is 27-years-old and is under contract through next season. Berrios will be arbitration eligible this winter before hitting free agency in 2023. On the year, Berrios is 7-2 in 16 starts with a 3.52 ERA and a 1.141 WHIP. Given how the Twins have played, he could be going to his third All-Star Game.

The biggest issue with trading for Berrios is understanding firmly that you are going to have to give up a ton for him. He is the Twins’ best trade asset, as Berrios could be the ace on any number of team’s pitching staff. While the Yankees paid a small fortune to land Gerrit Cole in his free agency two years ago, imagine having the two of them anchor the Yankees’ rotation down the line.

Because Berrios plays in the American League, the Yankees would have to pay a premium for him.
