Talen Horton-Tucker is a potential sign-and-trade candidate for the Lakers

Sign-and-trades in the NBA are not as common as they once were, but they still happen every now in the during the offseason. If one player is dealt by way of a sign-and-trade off the Lakers’ roster this summer, it would have to be shooting guard Talen Horton-Tucker. The former second-round pick out of Iowa State by the Orlando Magic is hitting his restricted free agency in 2021.

Last year was Horton-Tucker’s breakout season in the NBA, as he played in 65 games for the Lakers. He averaged 9.0 points, 2.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game in 20.1 minutes per contest for Los Angeles. Entering his age-21 season, Horton-Tucker could be a major sign-and-trade asset for a team that is on the rise and really buys into him blossoming into his potential.

The only problem is the Lakers may want to keep him around on a second contract. They have the ability to match any deal he garners on the open market in his restricted free agency. Ultimately, it would have to take the right trade partner to pull off a sign-and-trade with the Lakers for them to part ways with Horton-Tucker in exchange for a proven star. It could happen, but don’t count on it.

Horton-Tucker is an intriguing asset, but how sure are we the Lakers want to cash in that chip?
