2. Zack Britton

Once a prized addition to the Yankees bullpen, Zack Britton has become one of its most expandable.

With the Yankees going nowhere, and the bullpen lackluster at best, shipping Britton off at the deadline could help set up more future moves than he’s been able to games this year. New York can save roughly $6 million by trading Britton at the deadline, and while he’s struggled to stay healthy this year he could be a valuable asset for a contending team’s bullpen, or to a team looking to get back into contention by shoring their bullpen up.

Britton is also expendable in terms of his value to the bullpen. The Yankees have decent relief arms in the likes of Nestor Cortes, Lucas Luetge, Darren O’Day, and Wandy Peralta. Subtracting Britton from the mix does little to upset the flow of things, both thanks to the free fall the Yankees are in and the fact that Britton has hit the IL enough times for the bullpen to experience what life without him would be like.

His injury concerns will lower his price significantly, but getting his $6 million off the books for future moves is a valuable part of moving him. Teams like the Reds, Dodgers, White Sox, and Astros could all make for great trade partners in need of bullpen help and willing to take on the risk of Britton to see how things play out.
