Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw hits the 10-day injured list with left forearm inflammation.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are currently in what is essentially a three-team competition for the NL West title alongside the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres. The last thing they needed prior to the All-Star break was the ace of the rotation going down with an injury, but that has become a reality ahead of their game against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Dodgers announced that they have placed pitcher Clayton Kershaw on the 10-day injured list due to left forearm inflammation. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers have recalled right-handed pitcher Mitch White.

Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw placed on injured list due to left forearm inflammation

While many Dodgers fans want to hit the panic button considering the potential seriousness of the injury, it is simply unknown if this will keep Kershaw out long-term. All the Dodgers can really do is play it day-by-day while monitoring Kershaw’s arm to determine whether he will be able to pitch in the very near future.

Kershaw last pitched on July 3 in a 5-3 win over the Washington Nationals, where he allowed three earned runs on three hits while striking out three batters in four innings of work. The left-handed pitcher was scheduled to pitch in Friday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Through 18 starts this season, Kershaw posted a 3.39 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP, 127 strikeouts and 19 walks through 106.1 innings of work.

The Dodgers are already without Dustin May due to Tommy John surgery and Trevor Bauer is on administrative leave as the league investigates sexual assault allegations. Now, Kershaw is out for at least the next 10 days with  left forearm inflammation. We will continue to keep you updated on Kershaw’s status in the coming days.
