Klay Thompson’s post-NBA retirement plans sound pretty sweet
By John Buhler
Klay Thompson may fall off the face of the earth after he calls it a career in the NBA.
Expect for Klay Thompson fully enjoy his life at sea once he retires from playing in the NBA.
Over the last two years of not playing a second for the Golden State Warriors, Thompson has really gotten into boats and the aquatic lifestyle. His father Mychal Thompson said on KNBR’s Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show Tuesday that he fully anticipates his son will disappear from the public eye once he calls a career for a life at sea. There is a chance we never hear from Klay again.
“Yeah. I’d be surprised. I’d be shocked if he sticks around the NBA scene,” said Thompson. “He’s really into the ocean, really into his boat. I could see him getting on a boat and just sailing the world — cruising the world.
It sounds like it is only a matter of time before Captain Klay charts a course unbeknownst to us all.
Klay Thompson’s post-NBA retirement plans is everyone’s ultimate dream
I mean, what else would you expect Thompson to do, honestly? Odds are, we are not going to see him guest spotting on a local news affiliate discussing the intricacies of urban scaffolding again. He may have been totally in his element, but that was a one-off thing, and everybody knows it. What we also know is Captain Klay is an inevitably at this point, but when will he truly set sail?
Thompson is in his early 30s and should be able to play in the NBA for the next few years. Then again, if he is too far gone physically, he could leave the harbor in the middle of the night. The only time he will return is for the occasional summer yacht rock concert at an outdoor amphitheater. No doubt Thompson rocks out to some Christopher Cross, Looking Glass and Michael McDonald.
Expect Thompson to spend as little time as possible on dry land once he officially leaves the NBA.
