The Milwaukee Bucks have found recent success in the NBA Playoffs, but has the franchise ever won an NBA championship in the past?

Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Milwaukee Bucks to their first NBA Finals appearance in nearly 50 years during the 2021 NBA Playoffs.

Have the Bucks won a championship?

The answer is yes. In 1971, Lew Alcindor led Milwaukee to the NBA Championship before changing his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Milwaukee Bucks NBA titles: 1971 is the year the Bucks on the NBA championship

The Bucks landed Alcindor as the No. 1 overall selection in the 1969 NBA Draft. While garnering Rookie of the Year honors, he led the team to the playoffs in his first season. The team took a huge step forward when they traded for Cincinnati Royals guard Oscar Robertson the next year.

Together, Alcindor and Robertson led Milwaukee to the best record in the NBA. They were unstoppable in the playoffs, ousting the Warriors and Lakers in a pair of 4-1 series. When they faced the Bullets in the NBA Finals, they swept their opponents.

Alcindor was named the league MVP and Finals MVP.

Winning the NBA title in just three years of existence was a huge accomplishment for the team. That’s what having a transcendent talent like Abdul-Jabbar and surrounding him with a strong supporting cast will do.
