Liverpool name their price for Premier League speedster
Liverpool want to pry Adama Traore away from Wolves this summer, but Jurgen Klopp isn’t willing to break the bank for the pacy winger.
The last time Liverpool raided Wolves for an attacking player they struck gold with Diogo Jota. This time Jurgen Klopp wants to raid the Premier League club for the services of wide man Adama Traore.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool have already gone so far as to quote the price they’re willing to pay for the former Barcelona starlet. The £25 million Liverpool have quoted Wolves at the moment isn’t close to what the Midlands club believe is a fair price for Traore.
Klopp and his staff see Traore as an attacking midfielder. That’s subtly different from the wing back spot he generally played under Nuno Espirito Santo for Wolves. Playing further forward should be a better fit for Traore given his electric combination of athleticism and power with the ball at his feet.
Can Liverpool actually get this deal over the line?
If Klopp really sees Traore as a potential difference-maker for his attacking corps then he’ll need to sanction a significantly larger bid. Traore can be frustrating for managers because of his lack of skill and tendency to try to plow through opposing defenders, but there’s no denying his potential as a player.
Wolves are keenly aware of how many admirers Traore has all around Europe. They won’t be in any hurry to sell him to another English club at a cut-rate price. Liverpool’s initial offer might be enough to get them to the negotiating table, but it’s not going to convince Wolves to make a deal.
If Klopp and the higher-ups at Anfield are serious about landing Traore then they’ll need to up their offer by an absolute minimum of another £10 million. It may require upwards of £40 million to really catch Wolves’ interest in parting with their valuable wide man.
All of that means the odds are stacked against Liverpool landing Traore at the moment. A substantially increased transfer offer could shift those odds quickly, but there’s no indication Liverpool are in a hurry to recalibrate their valuation of Traore.
