7. Matt Biondi

Medal count: 11 ( 8 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze)

Sport: Swimming

Games attended: 1984, 1988, 1992

While he won at least one gold medal at all three Olympics he attended, Matt Biondi is most remembered for his hardware collection from the 1988 Games in Seoul, Korea. That summer, “The California Condor” won both the 50 and 100 m freestyle events along with three relay golds. Biondi very nearly added a sixth victory in the 100 m butterfly but was famously out-touched by 0.01 seconds by Anthony Nesty, who to this day owns the only Olympic gold medal ever won by Suriname.

A member of both the swimming and water polo teams during his collegiate days with the California Golden Bears, Biondi was named NCAA Swimmer of the Year three times and was a four-time selection to the All-American College Water Polo team.
