When it comes to which player had the best hitting performance in their MLB debut, look no further than former Chicago Cubs infielder Starlin Castro.

After spending 26 games in the team’s Double-A affiliate, the Cubs chose to call him up to the major league roster, where he would make his debut against the Cincinnati Reds. After he slashed .376/.421/.569 with 20 RBI, 20 runs scored and 41 hits, it was easy to see why the Cubs decided to give Castro a shot.

Castro stepped up to the plate in his first-ever at-bat with two runners on base and proceeded to send a home run into the outfield stands of the Great American Ball Park. Castro was not done there, as he hit a bases-loaded triple to give him a grand total of six RBI’s in his MLB debut. Not a bad way to start your career.

The infielder spent a grand total of six seasons with the Cubs before he was traded to the New York Yankees in 2016 for pitcher Adam Warren. In his tenure with Chicago, Castro earned three All-Star Game nominations and was the hits leader in the NL for the 2011 season (207 hits).
