2. Vegas Golden Knights

After he was inactive for the first three games of the first round playoff series against them, the Golden Knights got a close look at Parise over the final four games of the series.

In those four games, Parise had three points (two goals) with eight total shot attempts and seven credited hits. By comparison, in 45 regular season games he was credited with 18 hits. Somebody was clearly feisty after being a healthy scratch at the end of the regular season and into the playoffs, and ready to leave it all on the ice in what he may have realized would be his last games in a Wild sweater one way or another.

Golden Knights’ head coach Peter DeBoer was head coach of the New Jersey Devils for three-plus seasons from 2011-2015. That first season behind the Devils’ bench overlapped with Parise’s final season as a Devil, which ended in a run to the Stanley Cup Final against the Los Angeles Kings.

Vegas needs to find affordable players to take on, with a tilt toward adding some offense if it can. The tie to DeBoer, the organization’s general like for veterans of his ilk and being able to play the Wild often should fuel mutual interest between Parise and the Golden Knights. With the buyout money he’s getting from Minnesota, Parise may sign for something like league minimum to make it work.
