3 teams who should sign Zach Parise so he can get revenge on the Wild
1. New York Islanders
If not for the trade deadline time literally passing in February of 2020 before the deal could be finalized, Parise would have been on his way to the Islanders as he and Andrew Ladd both agreed to waive their no-move clauses. Dating back to the previous offseason, then-Wild GM Paul Fenton was entertaining trading Parise and the Islanders were easy to think of as a team he was talking to.
Now that Parise is going to be freely available, at whatever price the market will bear (or he’s willing to take), the Islanders are an easy rumored landing spot. With a stop with the Toronto Maple Leafs in-between, Islanders president of hockey operations/GM Lou Lamoriello is best-known for his long run as general manager of the New Jersey Devils from 1987-2015. In 2003, Lamoriello spearheaded the use of the 17th overall pick in the draft on a kid out of the University of North Dakota named Zach Parise.
Parise’s father, J.P., spent all or part of four seasons with the Islanders during his playing career. Whether that means anything sentimentally to his son is unclear. But the Islanders are a winning team, with a Stanley Cup-winning coach in Barry Trotz behind the bench.
Signing with the Islanders means Parise wouldn’t get a chance for revenge against the Wild very often next season. But they are an ideal landing spot for him otherwise, with everything else he would want as the back end of his career continues.
