1. The Astros make the most sense to take a risk for Jose Berrios, but they may not have enough

Of all the teams mentioned in the piece, the team most likely to roll the dice on Berrios for this season and beyond is the Astros.

Houston (55-36) sits atop the AL West with a 3.5 game lead, the Astros have been among the best all-around teams in baseball this season. They have a potent offense and a starting rotation that’s posted a 3.35 ERA this season (5th-MLB).

There isn’t necessarily a desperate need to add Berrios, but it would give the Astros a bigger flex and solidify them as the team to beat when October comes around.

Unfortunately for the Astros, having the 29th ranked farm system isn’t as appealing to a team like the Twins looking to get some high-level young talent. Houston’s only Top-100 prospect, (No. 64) Forrest Whitley, required Tommy John surgery this past March.

Instead, it could mean Houston makes a change to their big-league roster. A player like 24-year-old outfielder like Kyle Tucker comes to mind as a piece in this type of deal. Still, it would take more in addition to a lone MLB-ready player like Tucker to take Berrios off the Twins’ hands.

Unless the Astros are willing to gut what’s left of their remaining top prospects, it’s more likely other teams higher ranked young talent is more appealing to the Twins. If Houston is in a win now mode, they might as well take their shot.
