The Blue Jays used a cinematic mini-movie to announce a date for their return to home games at Toronto’s Rogers Centre this season.

There’s no place like home, and after a year away from their friendly confines the Toronto Blue Jays announced on Friday their return to Canada’s Rogers Centre which is set to take place on July 30.

Toronto’s social media team released an epic cinematic mini-movie shortly after the news was released.

The Blue Jays haven’t played a home game in their Toronto ballpark since September 2019 due to Canada’s border closures in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Going back to last summer, Toronto has used the home park of their Triple-A affiliate, Buffalo Bisons, as well as their spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida for their home games.

The Blue Jays have announced a return for Toronto home games

In order to return to the Rogers Centre, the Blue Jays had to secure approval from municipal and provincial governments in addition to federal approval. Details involving attendance capacity at the Rogers Centre has yet to be announced.

Despite the disadvantage from playing their home games elsewhere, Toronto has fared well. They earned a Wild Card birth in 2020 with the expanded playoffs before bowing out to the eventual American League Champion Rays.

Heading into Friday’s matchups, the Blue Jays (45-42) are eight games out of first place and 4.5 games behind a Wild Card spot.

The return home for the Blue Jays will be exciting for their home fans in Toronto, especially given the season a player like Vladimir Guerrero Jr is having. The 22-year-old is on the verge of an AL Triple Crown, slashing .332/.430/.658 with 28 home runs and 73 RBIs in 87 games this season.

Fresh off taking home the All-Star Game MVP honors, Guerrero and his teammates will return to Toronto with a warm welcome.
