If the Saints let Marcus Williams walk, they could find a replacement option that could be considered an upgrade from him. Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu will become a free agent next offseason, and the Chiefs could let him go if his asking price is too high. If the Saints have the financial flexibility to get the Honey Badger, they should make every effort to do so.

Mathieu is an elite defensive talent, having the ability to cover the entire field. The Chiefs put him in the box, and he’s making stops in the opponent’s backfield. They have him lurk in the middle in coverage, using his instincts to force turnovers and make impact plays. He can also play deep, containing some of the best receivers in football. Add on his passion and intelligence, and the Saints defense could become a different animal with Mathieu creeping in the secondary.

The Chiefs know how special Tyrann Mathieu is, and they will do everything they can to bring him back next offseason. The Saints better find a way to compete with Kansas City for the Honey Badger if Marcus Williams isn’t returning to the squad.
