3. Tua Tagovailoa

Many would think it was a solid year for Tua Tagovailoa in 2020, especially as a rookie. A 6-3 record as a starter, almost made the postseason, and is seemingly the future of the Miami Dolphins, right? Sadly, things aren’t that simple for Alabama product.

He was very conservative last season, and that often came back to bite the Dolphins late in games. However, they have a good defense, skilled wideouts, and a rising star tight end in Mike Gesicki. It might be year two, but it’s time for the Tagolvailoa to take the training wheels off and become a real NFL quarterback.

He was thrown in as the starter and had to learn the offense on the fly, which could’ve impacted his play. However, Tagovailoa and the Dolphins rarely pushed the ball downfield. He’s proven that he has a deep ball, shredding opposing defenses during his time at Alabama. He didn’t look like the Tua scouts were drooling over before he injured his hip.

Maybe he didn’t feel comfortable in the offense, the coaches held him back, or both. Nevertheless, Miami won’t be going anywhere soon if Tagovailoa continues to play conservatively.

Entering year two, the Dolphins need to see the old Tua Tagovailoa. The one who throws ropes down the field, makes improvisational plays when necessary and is confident with the football. Much like Hurts, Tua showed glimpses, and those were exciting to see. He’ll have a full offseason of team activities and more experience with the playbook. It’s Tua’s time to shine in South Beach, and he has the supporting cast to make it happen.

All he has to do is play free, and let it fly.
