Gavin Sheets hits walkoff 3-run bomb for White Sox vs. Twins
Rookie right fielder Gavin Sheets was up to the task in the final inning between the White Sox and Twins, blasting a walk-off home run to win.
All Gavin Sheets needed to do was get a hit to tie things up for the Chicago White Sox in the seventh inning against the Minnesota Twins Monday night.
The rookie right fielder didn’t waste any time with tying the game. He wanted it all. So he blasted a three-run homer 390 feet to take it.
Sheets sent the crowd at Guaranteed Rate Field home with a victory in the second part of a double-header with his big swing to end it all.
That’s one way to make a name for yourself. Sheets is the first CWS rookie to hit a game-ending home run since Luis Robert in 2020, according to the team. It was also the first walk-off home run for the White Sox at all this year and the first walkoff for Sheets in the majors.
Gavin Sheets won the game for the White Sox with a three-run shot
Sheets had struck out on his first two at-bats of the game, but that didn’t faze him in the critical moment. He’s now hit five home runs in 15 games during his debut with Chicago.
The victory improved the White Sox to 57-37 with an eight-game advantage over the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central.
The Twins took the first game of the doubleheader, 3-2, with two runs in the extra eighth inning. Chicago failed to match them. Turnabout was fair play with the White Sox getting the end-of-game heroics this time.
Minnesota and Chicago will square off again on Tuesday, with the series ending on Wednesday. With two games already decided in the final inning, who knows what the next two games will bring.
