Outfield seemed to be an obvious piece to add at the trade deadline, given the injuries to Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert. However, both are on track to return at some point this season, which eliminates the need for a starting outfielder. But, how about adding a designated hitter?

Of course, the biggest designated hitter name on the trading block is Nelson Cruz of the Minnesota Twins. Yet, we can rule that out, since it is difficult to make trades with a division rival. But, the White Sox can check in with the Seattle Mariners regarding Mitch Haniger.

The outfielder was plagued by numerous injuries in the past two years, one of which knocked him out for the entirety of the 2020 season. But in his return this year, Haniger has been phenomenal at the plate for the White Sox.

Through 89 games this season, Haniger is slashing .266/.322/.509 while recording 22 home runs, 58 RBI, 65 runs scored and 93 hits.

Adding Haniger would not be too expensive, as he only has one year of arbitration eligibility remaining after this season. Cruz is likely out of the question for the White Sox, but Haniger is a solid contingency plan.
