NHL Expansion Draft leaks: Updated Seattle Kraken roster with every pick

The Seattle Kraken are selecting the first roster in franchise history, which means NHL Expansion Draft leaks are pouring in.

After years of waiting and months filled with speculation, the Seattle Kraken are finally joining the NHL.

Seattle was already a team, as the end of the 2021-22 season marked the dawning of a new era for the NHL. Hockey in Seattle had been announced dating back to 2019, but even though we had a logo reveal and a new stadium built, the Kraken becoming the newest NHL franchise didn’t feel real until the roster started to be put together.

General Manager Ron Francis has been working tirelessly since Saturday to figure out the best possible roster to piece together from the list of players left unprotected by their teams in the NHL Expansion Draft.

NHL Expansion Draft leaks

Here’s a running list of the NHL Expansion Draft leaks that have already trickled in:

Islanders lose Jordan Eberle to Kraken

Seattle adds a first-line winger from New York.

Blue Jackets keep Max Domi

Rather than add the veteran Domi, the Kraken opted to go in another direction.

Minnesota Wild don’t lose Kaapo Kähkönen

When the Kraken passed on Carey Price, many believed that Kahkonen would be the choice. Instead, Ron Francis continued his defenseman bender by adding Soucey.

Kraken select Calgary Flames captain

While the Kraken might have passed on Tarasenko and Landeskog, they added the team’s first captain in Mark Giordano.

Capitals, Panthers, and Senators picks leaked

Maple Leafs lose James McCann

Toronto traded for McCann from Pittsburgh last week, only to have him selected by the Kraken. The strategy seemed to be trading for a guy that Toronto didn’t mind getting selected to protect the rest of its roster.

Gabriel Landeskog won’t be selected by Seattle

On the surface, this seems like a miss, but given how far apart the Avs and Landeskog are, there’s a decent chance Seattle can pass on him here and simply add him in free agency.

Seattle is selecting Vince Dunn, not Vladimir Tarasenko from the Blues

Kraken won’t select Carey Price
