1. Trevor Story

If the Yankees want to give the largest response possible to the Rays, they need to call the Rockies for star shortstop Trevor Story. It is as simple as that.

Story is set to become an unrestricted free agent this winter and is in a loaded shortstop class that is looking to earn similar contracts that Fernando Tatis Jr. and Francisco Lindor received this past offseason. The thing is, Story will not get that deal from the Rockies, as he reportedly has no interest in re-signing with the organization.

Through 82 games this season, Story is slashing .243/.316/.423 while recording 11 home runs, 43 RBI, 43 runs scored and 74 hits.

The Yankees did have a solid contingency plan at shortstop in Didi Gregorius after Derek Jeter retired. However, the team allowed Gregorius to walk to free agency after the 2019 season, and expressed confidence in Gleyber Torres playing the position. The thing is, it has not worked defensively, as Torres played better at second. So, the Yankees have the chance to drastically improve their infield.

If the Yankees were to acquire Story, then can put him at shortstop. With that, Torres can return to second and D.J. LeMahieu can primarily play at first base. Add Urshela’s tremendous glove returning to third, and New York has themselves a solid infield.

Seriously, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman needs to consider bringing in Story. If he believes this team can contend for the World Series, then give the Rockies a call to work out a deal.
