2021 Olympics medal count, July 26: Which athletes and countries have the most medals?
Updated Olympics medal count after a triumphant day in the pool for the men’s and women swimmers from the U.S.A.
After a slow start to the 2021 Olympics, the United States of America picked things up in a big way to move up to second in the Olympics medal count standings with 14.
The U.S.A. now sits three medals behind the People’s Republic of China and two ahead of Japan and ROC who are tied in third place with 12.
The Americans were able to make a big move up the leaderboard in large part because of their efforts in the pool. Chase Kalisz won gold in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley, Caeleb Dressel led the men to gold in the Men’s 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay, Katie Ledecky took silver in the Women’s 400m Freestyle and took bronze in the Women’s 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay.
Other notable gold medals for the U.S.A. include the first-ever gold in Taekwondo that was won by Anastasija Zolotic. The Americans also picked up gold in Fencing with Lee Kiefer winning the Women’s Foil Individual, William Shaner won the 10m Air Rifle Men, Vincent Hancock won Skeet Men and Amber English won Skeet Women.
