Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is taking it easy while dealing with a shoulder strain but insists everything is fine despite some soreness.

Cowboys fans who have been holding their breath since learning Dak Prescott left practice on Wednesday can let it out.

Prescott updated his status on Wednesday night, describing the issue as “just a little shoulder pain, a little shoulder soreness.”

He’s not expected to practice on Thursday. However, it doesn’t sound like a major issue.

“[I] felt it a little bit yesterday, came out today was going to work through it and just felt I should be smart. [I’ve] got a long time to go,” Prescott said, per Joe Trahan of WFAA. “I didn’t want to obviously push through something that could potentially make it worse. So everything’s fine.”

That will be a relief to the Cowboys, who are beginning training camp with hopes of a much more stable 2021 season after last year’s 6-10 disappointment. Having to depend on four different starters at quarterback certainly wasn’t ideal.

Prescott’s health will be one of the storylines to watch throughout training camp. He’s coming off a devastating ankle injury from last season. In Week 5, the quarterback suffered a compound fracture and dislocation, which required surgery and ended his campaign.

Despite the uncertainty around his return from the injury, the Cowboys went all-in on Prescott as their future at quarterback by signing him to a four-year contract extension worth $160 million.

Getting him back healthy for the 2021 season is the priority. It makes sense for him not to rush any part of his return. The biggest thing is being available for Week 1 and beyond.

Before his injury, Prescott was averaging 371.2 yards per game with nine touchdowns, four interceptions and a passer rating of 99.6.
