Cavaliers should avoid these players in the NBA Draft

3. Jalen Suggs – Gonzaga

Jalen Suggs was an All-American during his one season at Gonzaga where he was instrumental in leading them to the national championship game, their lone loss of the season. He just shouldn’t be the pick for the Cavaliers at No. 3 is Green is on the board. Suggs is more of a pure point guard and floor general and is going to make whoever drafts him very happy, but the Cavaliers shouldn’t pass on the opportunity to take Green for Suggs.

2. Jonathan Kuminga – G League

If the Cavs go the G-League route, it’ll be for Green, not Jonathan Kuminga. The latter was the top recruit in the nation last year, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but he’s too much of a project compared to Green. The 6-foot-8 forward projects as a nice two-way player but his raw offensive skills and overall game need marinating. He’ll be a good player in time but the Cavs don’t want to be patient, they want Green’s ready-made game now.

1. Josh Giddey – Australia

If the Cavs traded down, Josh Giddey could be an interesting prospect to consider. But if the Cavs stick at No. 3, which is expected, they need to avoid the Australian point guard. Giddey has really nice size at 6-foot-9 and a good feel for the game. However, his inefficient shooting, limited range and poor defense present too many weaknesses for a prospect that would merit consideration with such a high pick.

The best plan for the Cavaliers is to stand pat at No. 3 and take Jalen Green. If the Rockets take Green or they trade with a team that takes Green, then the Rockets should take USC center Evan Mobley.
