3. Could the Cubs get Joey Bart from the Giants in a Kris Bryant trade?

The San Francisco Giants have been one of the biggest surprises so far this season. While many expected the NL West to be determined by the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, the Giants had other plans in mind.

With very few weaknesses, the Giants may be the team to beat in the National League. Adding Bryant, who Giants fans are familiar with after playing a big part in eliminating them in the 2016 NLDS, he can fill a role at the corner infield and corner outfield spots. He provides a big bat that can be deployed from the 2-hole in the lineup and his ability to run the bases allows the Giants to add a whole new dimension to their order.

Adding Bryant may be a necessary move to hold off the Dodgers and Padres. If it means giving up top prospect Joey Bart to do so, it may be the best prospect the Cubs can get for the 2016 NL MVP.

2. Kris Bryant could give the Mets a big bat

The Mets have felt like the favorite to land Bryant for the last month. But on the eve of the trade deadline, that’s not necessarily the case any longer. Still, the Mets are in the running for Bryant and could use his bat at the top of the order and glove anywhere they need him on the diamond. The Cubs should try to pry former first round pick Brett Baty, a 21-year-old left-handed-hitting third baseman in AA. He is the Mets No. 4 prospect.

1. Kris Bryant can give the Rays a boost in the AL

The Cubs may be hesitant to trade with the Rays because they have a penchant for always coming out on the right side of trades. They don’t normally acquire salary but if the Cubs pay the remaining amount of Bryant’s salary, they will get a better package in return. Provided the Cubs do that, they may be able to coax the Rays into including their No. 5 prospect, right-handed pitcher Shane Baz from AAA, or their No. 6 prospect, high-A switch-hitting shortstop, Greg Jones.
